In February of 2026, my sister and I took a quick trip down to San Juan, Puerto Rico for the weekend. We saw so many amazing sights and ate delicious food. Here is our itinerary:

Our flight landed around 3 in the afternoon which was perfect for our hotel check in. We stayed at the Urbana Hotel. (This was a budget hotel but it was in a great location.) We were able to walk to old San Juan as well as walk to the beach. After checking in we headed to old San Juan to explore the city. A quick dinner at Puerto Criollo hit the spot and it was a great place for people watching. We had to try a piña colada at the Barrachina bar and it was delicious. We later learned this was a tourist trap but we enjoyed it nonetheless.
The next morning we woke up early and had breakfast at Spiga cafe. This place is popular for a reason so get there a little before opening. We tried some delicious pasties and had some coffee to fuel us for our walking tour. I love walking tours during the first parts of a trip to give you the history and layout of the area. This tour took us to the highlights around San Juan and our tour guide was so knowledgeable. For lunch we sipped at cafe el Punto which has some of the best ceviche I’ve ever had. We kept our lunch light since we had booked a food tour for dinner.
While we waited for our food tour to start we had time to stops at the Armas hotel Photo Booth room. We also stopped at the museum of San Juan which only had one exhibit open at the time but was still good to escape the heat and learn about some more history. After that we met with our food tour group and began a three hour walking and food tour around San Juan. Everything we ate had a meaning to Puerto Rico and was also delicious. Definitely check out a food tour here for all the local favorites. We ended our night early since we had a long day but we’re excited to start the next.

Day 3 we first started at cafe Botanico for some delicious matcha and cute vibes. This is when we did most of our souvenir shopping even though only had personal items with our plane ticket. Poets passage was our favorite since it features local artists and also had a little art exhibition inside. For lunch we grabbed some empanadas to eat on our way to the beach. We picked Escambron beach since it was the easiest for us to walk to. Our hotel was right in between old San Juan and the beach which we liked. Since we walked we didn’t have to worry about parking but just know it has minimal space if you get there in the afternoon! We rented some chairs and enjoyed our beach day. If you get hungry there is a food truck that serves shrimp tacos that are delicious.
After our beach day we walked back and got ready for our bar hopping adventure. We went I a lot of places and tried many different appetizers and drinks! We went to the following places: Dos Lobos, Bar Cathedral, La Vergüenza, and La Factoria. My favorite were the empanadas at Dos Lobos, the views from Bar Cathedral and the guava coconut mojitos from La Vergüenza. There is a vibrant night life in old San Juan and you won’t be bored!

For our last day in San Juan we packed up our things and checked out of our hotel. Since our flight didn’t leave until 4 pm we still had most of the day to explore more. Our hotel had a bag storage area which worked great for us. We had to get coconut matcha again from cafe Botanico before we left so that was our first stop. A quick stop at the Avocado shop for some Avocado toast and we needed to fuel our day. Our first stop was the casa Blanca museum. This museum has a $5 entry fee to the house but the gardens are free. The views from the house were worth it in my opinion. The gardens are beautiful and lovely to walk around. This was one of the favorite places we saw in San Juan. Lastly, we couldn’t visit San Juan without visiting Castillo San Felipe del Morro. The entry fee is $10 but it gives you access to both Castillo within a 24 hour period. This place is give obviously so this took up the rest of our time before we caught our flight home!

That concludes our quick 4 day long weekend itinerary to San Juan, Puerto Rico. If you are a US citizen take advantage of visiting Puerto Rico since you don’t need a passport and they use the USD. The island id beautiful and filled with so much history and kind people!
